Bailey's Promise
In my time working as the Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Teton County, I have had the opportunity to learn first-hand the strengths and weaknesses of the criminal justice system in the valley, identify needs of the community, and develop plans that are realistic and achievable. I will not make idealistic promises that cannot be kept. But if elected, I will work every day to better our legal system, carry out justice and safeguard the community. For example, I will:
-
Zealously prosecute violent and dangerous crime;
-
Provide support, guidance and justice for victims;
-
Increase transparency through publication of case statistics;
-
Prioritize rehabilitation of offenders to decrease recidivism;
-
Consider non-criminal resolutions where treatment would be more effective;
-
Employ criminal mediation to achieve comprehensive resolutions;
-
Protect and support the children and mentally ill;
-
Consider alternatives to cash bonds to ensure equal access to pre-trial release;
-
Increase efficiency through improved management and procedures;
-
Ensure fair and unbiased treatment for all individuals and groups;
-
Collaborate closely with the Sheriff’s Office to build cases through investigations;
-
Ensure that the Sheriff’s Office procedures safeguard constitutional rights;
-
De-prioritize prosecution of low-level possession offenses and other petty crime;
-
Improve cooperation with other aspects of county government; and
-
Ensure that county officials have access to thorough and timely legal advice.
